Pinhole Workshop!

Een pinhole camera is het meest eenvoudige fotografische instrument denkbaar. Ik werk al meer dan 20 jaar met dit instrument en het heeft mijn visuele gewoontes en mijn manier van waarnemen sterk beïnvloed.

In deze workshop leer je een nieuwe, intuïtieve manier van beelden maken.
Deze ultra analoge manier van fotograferen nodigt je uit om de tijd te nemen, te experimenteren en het toeval te omarmen.

De camera obscura inspireert niet alleen kunstenaars, maar is ook sinds lange tijd een bron van fascinatie voor filosofen en alchemisten. We beginnen met een korte verkenning van de geschiedenis van de camera obscura en de ‘pinhole’.

Iedereen bouwt zelf een pinhole camera. Er is geen standaard model.
We werken met verschillende formaten, beeldhoeken en belichtingstijden
Zo verkennen we de eindeloze creatieve mogelijkheden van deze oervorm van fotografie.

We trekken er op uit om foto’s te maken. Leer hoe je tot een juiste belichtingstijd komt, een interessante compositie, en wat de eigenschappen zijn van het werken met negatieven van fotografisch papier.

Terug in de doka leer je hoe de negatieven chemisch ontwikkelt.
We bespreken de resultaten, herladen de camera’s en maken nieuwe foto’s.

Aan het einde van de dag maken we van enkele negatieven een positieve contactafdruk.

Het doel van deze workshop is op met de opgedane kennis en ervaring, met minimale middelen, zelf thuis verder te kunnen experimenteren.

Pinhole Workshop!

A pinhole camera is the most simple photographic instrument imaginable. I have been working with this instrument for over 20 years, and it has greatly influenced my visual habits and my way of perceiving.

In this workshop, you will learn a new, intuitive way of creating images. This ultra-analog way of photographing invites you to take your time, to experiment, and to embrace chance.

alchemy The camera obscura not only inspires artists but has also long been a source of fascination for philosophers and alchemists. We start with a brief exploration of the history of the camera obscura and the ‘pinhole’.

experiment Everyone will build their own pinhole camera. There is no standard model. We will work with different formats, angles of view, and exposure times to explore the endless creative possibilities of this primal form of photography.

imagination We will go out to take photos. Learn how to determine the correct exposure time, an interesting composition, and the characteristics of working with negatives of photographic paper.

Back in the darkroom, you will learn how to chemically develop the negatives. We will discuss the results, reload the cameras, and take new photos.

At the end of the day, we will make positive contact prints from some of the negatives.

The goal of this workshop is to enable you to continue experimenting at home with the knowledge and experience gained, using minimal resources.

I give this workshop in my pinhole studio at the Willem Twee Fabriek.
